25 Mar 2007 - Grasshopper Girls Match Reports

U12's SWGL Round 1 Plate

Venue Caerphilly

Aberdare 0 Cadoxton 2

Aberdare struggled a little in this whole match Cadoxton were a stronger
opponent being much older and larger than our girls.  Aberdare showed some
real football skills in all positions and had most of the possession
throughout the match.  At times Cadoxton were very verbal and physical
pushing and hurting our girls.  Resulting to total intimidation.  This put a
lot of pressure on the whole team resulting to a disappointing 2-0 loss.
Cadoxton nominated Sian for player of the match.

Aberdare 2 Cardiff 1

Aberdare took control again in this match with Cardiff luckily getting a
goal in the second half taking Jade by surprise.  The team worked really
well Georgia , Jenna and Sian passing the ball between them and Carleigh
Forsythe getting 2 goals past the Cardiff keeper.  Paige, Rebecca and
Jessica stood fast in defence alongside our new member Nicole.  The girls
had a fairer opponent and an excellent game.  Sian was nominated again for
player of the match.

Aberdare 0 Caerphilly 3

The girls were now feeling the pressure and were very tired.  Caerphilly
again had some very large players and Aberdare found it really hard to take
possession.  A hand ball resulted in a penalty to Caerphilly but Jade saved
a corker shot.  Carleigh was taken off due to an ankle injury.  But Aberdare
stood their ground and let no more goals through the back of the net.
Nominated player of the match was Carleigh Forsythe.

Aberdare Player of the match today was a well deserved Jenna Davies who was
also captain of the U12's team.

Alison Lloyd Coach said "There were a lot of comments today from the other
teams about how well our girls have progressed in the past year.  Some of
the players in other teams were a little uneasy at the skills and team work
of the Aberdare Girls, in turn felt an urge to pressure them and use sheer
force to intimidate and at times hurt them. Not once did the girls surcome
to verbally abusing or physically hurting any opponent and kept their cool
at all times.  well done girls!!!  A fantastic result from 3 very difficult
games".

Aberdare was host today for it's first ever U11's Round Robin Tournament.

10 U11's all girls teams participated.

They were: Ferndale, Caerphilly, Penydarren, Georgetown Devils, Georgetown
Dragons, Pant and Dowlais Tigers,  Pant and Dowlais Lions, Ely Follies,
Treforest and of course Ento Aberdare Grasshopper Girls.

There were over 120 girls participating and the same amount if not more
supporters.  Aberdare got to play 5 really spectacular games and although
they lost all of them they had fun and played their socks off throughout
every match.  They never once took the smile off their faces and remembered
that its not the winning its the taking part that counts.

Each of the girls played their hearts out, with some exceptional saves by
their new goalkeeper Lowri Davies.  There was some fantastic defending by
all the defenders but Alex was all over the other teams players at times,
making it impossible for them to pass.  Some of our younger members in all
positions getting stuck in also you know who you are.

Ento had quite a few shots at goal by Shannon D, Shannon L and little miss
dynamite herself Jessica John.   But none wanted to go into the back of the
net this time. Hard luck girls.

The mid field players, played really well also, with some good passing
skills now showing and some nifty footwork by Angharad and Sophie.

A massive thank-you to Gareth (Coach U11's Boys), April and Alarna (both
Ento Aberdare Grasshoppers U16's players) who helped with the proceedings.
Also to all the participating coaches.  I was proud to be part of fair play
football today.  This is how it should always be.

All the girls were fantastic ambassadors today for their own areas. All of
us at Ento Aberdare Grasshoppers are very proud, well done to you all.

Player of the match today for Ento Aberdare Grasshoppers was Lowri Davies.
