Under 12's 2006-2007 Match Reports

Aberaman Band Club were the hosts in this League encounter against the Grasshoppers and were quickly ahead after disastorous defending gifted the Band Club a 2 goal lead. Unlike the encounter against Perthcelyn the Grasshoppers fought back and scored goals with a Christian Williams hattrick and a goal from Josh Jones. The Grasshoppers welcomed back Geraint Phibben and Greg Beynon into the defence and apart from the early scare the defence looked solid. The final score was 4-3 in the Grasshoppers favour.

Perthcelyn entertained the Grasshoppers on the Pentwyn fields in Mountain Ash, the first half was end to end football with the Grasshoppers leading 3-2 but 2 late goals from Perthcelyn resulted in a 4-3 half time score line. Missing Geraint Phibben and Greg Beynon in defence told on the Grasshoppers, and Perthcelyn dominated the second half to score a further 5 goals. It was a very disappointing performance from several players, JPR, Crouch and Fenaroli scored for the Grasshoppers and with both teams guilty of missing opportunities to score the scoreline could have been greater.

The Grasshoppers played Cwmbach on the Ynys playing fields in what turned out to be an entertaining match. Strolling into a 2 goal lead with goals from JPR and a superb goal from Andrew (Xavi Alonso) Fenaroli from near the half way line, the Grasshoppers were pegged back by Cwmbach for a final score of 2-2.

Aberaman Band Club versus ENTO Aberdare Grasshoppers

The Band Club ended the first half 2-1 up, after being totally dominated in the opening 15 minutes only to find their feet, the second half was no better for them with the Grasshoppers having much more posession and territorial advantage, the Christian Crouch Williams equalised to make it 2-2 and he also hit the crossbar after a neat corner exchange, Ben Smart had a glorious chance to score a crucial goal only to find his back flick go wide. JPR in a offside position but told to play on had another chance spurned. These missed chances cost the Grasshoppers dearly as the Band Club's best player Tomos Morgan broke free to score the winning goal. Final score 3-2. Andrew Fenaroli played a stormer of a match with a solid display from Morgan jones at right back.

Gadlys versus ENTO Aberdare Grasshoppers.

Gadlys took a two goal lead, only to be pegged back by a Gregory Beynon goal. Half time score 2-1 to Gadlys. The second half saw a further 2 goals from the Gadlys boys, one of which was a cross which looped into the far corner of the net. The Grasshoppers were not demoralised by the 4-1 scoreline, but instead, thought back and scored 2 superb goals through Joshua Jones and Andrew Fenaroli, further chances for Fenaroli and Beynon were spurned. The Grasshoppers deserved more than a defeat. The Gadlys pairing again of Hancock and Dammon provided plenty of problems for the Grasshoppers. Andrew Fenaroli played well in the centre of midfield for the Grasshoppers and once again the defence despite allowing 4 goals past them played well.

Treharris Western versus ENTO Aberdare Grasshoppers

This match produced end to end football, played in a good sporting spirit. Treharris were first off the mark but were quickly pegged back by JPR for the Grasshoppers who was terrorising the Treharris defence with every attack. Treharris again regained the lead only for JPR to equalise again. Unfortunately, just before half time Ben Smart in goals for the Grasshoppers mis-judged a free kick and hosts ended the half, 3-2 in the lead.

JPR scored his third shortly into the second half only for Treharris to regain the lead. Defences ruled the remainder of the match and no further goals were scored. Treharris 4 Grasshoppers 3.

Pantscallog Juniors versus ENTO Aberdare Grasshoppers

Pantscallog must have fancied their chances against the Grasshoppers, but the visitors had different ideas, knowing the hosts would place balls over the top for their quick forwards to latch onto, the defenders had them well marshalled, and playing some attractive passing moves towards the Pantscallog goal, the Grasshoppers took the lead through Christian (Crouch) Williams. JPR was a constant danger to Pantscallog but was unable to provide a clinical finish. The Grasshoppers defence continued to dominate throughout and it was only a bad clearance from Nathan Morgan that resulted in the equalising goal. The second half was similar with Pantscallog planting through balls rather than playing football and unfortunately they scored a second. All the Grasshopper defenders played superbly well, as did the rest of the squad. In an intimadating environment  the Grasshoppers rose to the occasion and only narrowlly lost.

ENTO Aberdare Grasshoppers versus Aberaman Band Club

Two dreadful referee mistakes cost the Grasshoppers a second consecutive win.

Leading the first half 1-0 where Nathan Morgan in goals for the Grasshoppers was unemployed due to the strong defensive performance. JPR was again in inspirational form going forward and scored the opening goal. The second half was end to end football with the Band Club equalising with a clearly offside goal, but the Grasshoppers almost immediately went the other end and JPR scored again. A further 2 goals from the Band Club, one of which was offside again made the final score 3-2 in their favour. Andrew Fenaroli battled well throughout in a very disapointing result for the Grasshoppers.

ENTO Aberdare Grasshoppers versus Troedyrhiw

The Grasshoppers won their first match of the season against the league leaders of the Aberdare/Merthyr Combined League, namely  Troedyrhiw.

James Rosser Parker (JPR) opened the scoring and Andrew Fenaroli lobbed the goalkeeper for the second, before the first half ended Christian Williams made it 3-0. Troedyrhiw started the second half in a more determined fashion and pulled a goal back, but further goals again from JPR and Fenaroli made the final score 5-1.

It was a deserved victory after some superb performances in previous matches without having the result they deserve, credit to the boys who have superb spirit and commitment to the team.

24th February 2007 Merthyr Saints versus Grasshoppers.

The Grasshoppers deserved to win this encounter against the table toppers the Saints, missing 3 players, it was another rotation of players. James Parker Rosser had several chances to score in the first half and Andrew Fenaroli missed a superb chance put couldn't get his head to the ball. Joshua Jones created some some good movement and runs but unforunately 3 shots from the home team found the net. Nathan Morgan performed some good saves in both halves. The second half found the Grasshoppers 3-0 down but the second half was a better performance with Andrew Fenaroli and James Parker-Rosser scoring goals, with a host of other chances not being capitilised upon. Rhys Welch dominated the defensive area and James Parker-Rosser played havoc with the opposition going forward. Andrew Fenaroli was strong in the central of midfield.

17th February 2007 Grasshoppers versus Georgetown.

The Grasshoppers put up a better performance against a competitive Georgetown squad, despite the improvement Georgetown scored 8 goals without reply. Ben Smart and Christian Williams wasted glorious chances to score goals for the Grasshoppers whilst one of the Georgetown goals was 'offside'. The Grasshoppers need to defend closer to the oppostion to stop the oppostion having time to turn, look up and pass.

3rd Saturday 2007 Grasshoppers verus Perthcelyn

The Grasshoppers started strongly against Perthcelyn and dominated the opening quarter, but 3 quick breaks against the run of play flattered the visitors into a 3-1 half time lead. The second half slightly favoured Perthcelyn with the difference between the 2 teams the clinical finishing of Perthcelyn. Morgan Jones and James Parker Rosser shined, with Andrew Fenaroli outstanding in his work rate.

21st January 2007 Grasshoppers versus Aberaman Band Club

Missing 2 players through 'man flu' and 2 players awol, meant another re shuffling of players positions. And the players done themselves credit in their performance against the Band Club.

Strong performances by James Parker-Rosser, who missed 2 chances with only the keeper to beat, Rhys Welch and Morgan Jones in defence and a work  man like performance from Christian Williams in attack.

The only goal of the game came in the first half.

14th January 2007 Georgetown versus Grasshoppers

An extremely disappointing result after the pre xmas performance against Cwmbach. The holiday break had obviously been too relaxing for the Grasshoppers.

On a very heavy pitch, Georgetown scored within a minute, but the Grasshoppers responded but eventually further attacks by Georgetown made the score at half time 4-0, the second half was worse than the first with 6 goals with out return in Georgetowns favour. The first shot on goal came with only 15 minutes remaining.

Missing Geraint Phibben in defence the Grasshoppers paid the ultimate prioce in silly mistakes in not clearing the ball away from danger.

Some tired legs were evident with Georgetown scoring the last 3 goals in the last couple of minutes.

 The Grasshoppers must do better.

17th December 2006 Cwmbach versus Grasshoppers

What an absolutely superb performance from all 13 players, Nathan Morgan, Greg Beynon, Morgan Jones, Andrew Parker, Geraint Phibben, Rhys Welch, Andrew Fenaroli, James Rosser-Parker, Jordan Airey, Christian Williams, Joshua Jones, Jordan Boulton, Will Beynon.

The first match between these 2 teams resounded in a crushing defeat by Cwmbach, and most proberly they entered this match in confident mood, however, the Grasshoppers had different ideas.

The only goal of the first half came from a specalative shot from Cwmbach which found the top corner of the net, the second half was end to end football with the Grashhoppers missing a host of one on one with the Cwmbach keeper. Greg Beynon's cultured left boot found the net after sustained pressure, but again a series of missed chances didn't increase the scoreline. Cwmbach still had time to miss a marvellous opportunity to win the match.

The best Grasshopper performance this year.

10th December 2006 Grasshoppers versus Gadlys Rovers

Despite the inclement whether, the match was on, the belief was that the Grasshoppers could avenge their defeat earlier in the season to the Gadlys.

Missing Geraint Phibben in the heart of defence for the second match in a row meant a slight reshuffle in personnel, with Shane Rees deputising in defence.

It was an even first half with only one goal, scored by Gadlys Rovers, both teams were guilty of several missed chances.

The second half started more brightly for the Grasshoppers with Joshua Jones scoring his first of the season to equalise, further chances for the Grasshoppers were missed and were punished with the Gadlys scoring another 2 goals through Darren Hancock. A disastrous piece of defending gifted Gadlys a fourth goal, again the Grashhoppers had attempts on goal, but failed to score.

The final score was 4-1 to Gadlys Rovers. Joshua Jones, Morgan Jones, Andrew Parker and Rhys Welch starred for the Grasshoppers whilst Darren Hancock was again the Gadlys Rovers architect in the Grasshopper downfall.

2nd December 2006 Troedyrhiw Boys Club versus Grasshoppers

The Grasshoppers came away with a great deal of credit after this away defeat to Troedyrhiw, with 5 players missing the Grasshoppers turned up with only 10 players and played an

adventureous 3-4-2 formation despite the deficit in numbers.

Playing the better football in the first half with Joshua Jones providing good support for the front 2 and Rhys Welch controlling the defensive area, both teams shared 4 goals with Nathan Morgan and Daniel Beynon scoring for the Grasshoppers. Troedyrhiw’s goals came as a result of high long distance shots which gave the Grasshopper keeper no chance. A further speculative shot by Troedyrhiw made the half time score 3-2 in their favour.

The second half was similar to the first with the Grasshoppers dominating much of the match but failing to provide the killer pass or shoot when the opportunity arose.

The deficit in numbers finally tolled with the Troedyrhiw team scoring a further 5 goals late on as the Grasshopper players tired.

Strong performances from Rhys Welch and Joshua Jones, with good performances from Morgan Jones who seems to be getting better with every match. Jordan Boulton played his best game of the season.
